In the Pratt&Whitney engine manual it is stated "A start is defined as an engine start followed by one or more flights" so How is it possible to have more than one flight following one engine start?

Failed APU and airport doesn't have a GPU or ground air cart.
One engine can be kept running for ground operations.
Passenger loading would require the right engine. Cargo, the right for the top deck, left for the lower cargo compartments. Fueling would be another issue.
It's been done.
On the DC-10 and MD-11, the #2 can be kept running without interference to cargo, passenger, or fueling.

Mark, maybe I don't make my meaning clear....I mean to say how is it possible that number of flights is higher than number of starts? I can not understand how it is related to failed APU and unavailable ground support equipment, GSE?!

Engine cycles are recorded along with aircraft cycles. It is known that engine cycles are always higher in number. Ground taxi and engine power runs for example.

All official records are aircraft cycles. Engine cycles are recorded from time of install, but they are referenced to the aircraft.

You are flying an older aircraft. It has no means of recording every start. The only time that matters for engines is cycles and flight run hours of which run hours holds more importance.

Is there any operation during which engine is kept running and is not shut down between two flights....
